ZoneAlarm free is blocking your VPN and not telling

Yes, ZoneAlarm free is blocking your VPN and will never tell you.

You were thinking that your VPN server is offline, or worse, your VPN configuration might be gone, considering that you are the only one complaining about this, in fact it is the ZoneAlarm.

To solve this, double click your ZoneAlarm tray icon, hit View details button in Firewall (middle section), click Basic Firewall where is says 7543991 access atempt blocked and in the Log viewer is your VPN server (IP or name)!

Highlight it, click the now enabled button Add to zone, usually the dialog displays Zone: trusted, the IP address, you have to add a coment, or description to this zone to be able to add this enabled access zone.
Hit OK and there you are, your VPN is working again!
While ZoneAlarm never told you about your VPN connection – which is supposed to pay your monthly salary, from which you would upgrade to paid variant of ZoneAlarm (if ever you might be still considering after cutting yourself from work), it is still suggesting you to upgrade now…

Firefox or Chrome won’t display Yahoo webmail

Well, happens that Yahoo is underdoing some changes to their web based email interface, so Firefox and Chrome seem that are not able to display Inbox (just a little notice Loading emails…).

There is a workaround until they get back into their right minds and test their interface in a more common web browser than Internet Explorer, whatever it’s number it is:

Disable Javascript in your browser and you’ll be asked to revert to the old (Yahoo) email, temporary or permanent, upon logging in. Do that and you’ll be able again to use your webmail.

Firefox: Tools – Options – Content tab – uncheck Allow Javascript
Chrome: click the gear in the upper right – Options – Content settings – check the other radio button

For Vista/7 Chrome  nerds:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe -disable-javascript

For Windows XP Chrome nerds:
“C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome” -disable-javascript

You can reactivate Javascript once you’re logged in, even if you choosed temporary, how long you stay logged in.
Or do all the trick again, before each login 😉

Happy Yahoo mailing everyone!

rumor: are they rewriting for the HTML5 (ie IE9 – involuntary pun intended)?

Firefox won’t “Search”

My Firefox 4.0.1 won’t search when I fill something (anything – no prefference 😉 and hit Search.

Why? Don’t know yet. But I have a workaround:

Open your prefered (search) page – mine is google – go to Tools – Options – General and use Use current page button.
Your next search on your home page will work flawlessly.

I like Firefox, and I like even more Firefox 4, but this is a glitch they’ll fix pretty soon, so I don’t really bother.
This issue will not show up on all computers, but many of them will show this behaviour.

For those that use Firefox 4 with the new Firefox button (menu), press ALT to reach the Tools menu.

http://tusfbfotos.com, http://twittersphoto.com – spread an IRC bot!

A new virus, spreaded through Yahoo messenger, sends you a kink to: http://tusfbfotos.com (/image.php) or http://twittersphoto.com/image.php. If you click it, it downloads an “image” , in fact an executable (IM56245.JPG-www.myspace.com.exe) that will infect you computer with this IRC bot, at this moment known only by 4 AntiViruses, Kaspersky, Sophos, Komodo and Prevx.

I have Kaspersky 6 and this did not indentify the trojan, though, even manually fed, only Kaspersky 7 does. Who knows what Kaspersky 7 is, please let me know.

To get rid of this, sign out of Yahooo Messenger to stop the spread, download and install Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org or any major download site, run it and allow it to cleaneverything it finds.

There was an registry key and an executable file infected:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\firewall administrating (Backdoor.IRCBot) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

C:\Users\Public\infocard.exe (Backdoor.IRCBot) -> Delete on reboot.

As infocard.exe was running, I preffered to kill the tread and then delete manually the infected file, piece of cake.

Trying to access now any of these 2 sites shows an Yahoo error :”

Sorry, Service Temporarily Unavailable.

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 410 Gone error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.” from Yahoo.

Either someone got the ideea of what is spreading from these sites, or they reached their traffic limit and been suspended automatically.

The idea is that even really new, this irc bot is for now gone.
